Farewell Eventide

Eventide3C – Consider us shocked! Eventide in Clarendon served its last meals on Sunday. I was there, but through a ridiculous little date mix up, my dining companion had made reservations for the following Sunday. So, I left without brunch and we decided to meet again the following week. While I waited (stomach growling furiously) in the foyer, it didn’t seem like there was anything strange going on. There was no indication they were closing up shop. There was no mad rush to get in one final brunch. It was business as usual. So what happened?

According to ARLnow, the owner of A-Town bought the business and lease. Don Tito, a “Tacos, tequila and beer” establishment, will go in its place.

We will miss Eventide. It was a great place for brunch, it had a lovely roof top, and the Odd Bar was a great choice for a last minute meet up.

Washington National Opera’s La Boheme

K- La bohème, Puccini’s four-act opera about young bohemians in Paris struggling to fulfill their dreams and find love, was a fabulous way to spend a Saturday evening at the Kennedy Center.

The story takes place in Paris’ Latin Quarter. The characters: Mimì, a seamstress;  and Rodolfo, a poet, fall in love; Musetta, a singer, flirts and feuds with painter Marcello; philosopher Colliner and Schaunard, a musician think of ways to avoid paying rent.

The sets, costumes and orchestra were amazing and the performers were solid. I became so entranced by the music, set changes and performance that time flew by.  If you can get tickets – arrive early as the opera house was pretty packed when we went – I would highly recommend it.

C – I was told by a work friend that this particular production was amazing, but I didn’t realize the extent of it until act 2 at Cafe Momus. The set was stunning and the performers were stellar. After the intermission, the curtain went up for act 2 to the sound of the audience ooo-ing and ahhh-ing at how beautiful the wintry scene was. The Washington National Opera really got it right with this production. Go while you still can. Limited tickets are still available in variety of price ranges.

Leaf Peeping

Not Shenandoah but pretty leaves nonetheless!

Not Shenandoah but pretty leaves nonetheless!

K- The East Coast is one of the best places to leaf peep. The brilliant, gold and scarlet leaves are still clinging to the tree branches and one of the best places to check out the colourful foliage is Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park.  Although the peak colour has passed there are still some trees that are hanging on to their leaves in the lower elevations of the park.

Check out the foliage report here to find out what the leaves are doing whether there are still a few to enjoy or if all of the trees have lost their vibrant colours.
